About my Hometown

I am going to talk about my hometown. My hometown is a small town in Louisiana called Ferriday. Ferriday is a town in Concordia Parish in Northeastern Louisiana. The population as of (2016) is 3,330. The town claims to have produced more famous people per mile than any other town in America. The main singers that is from Ferriday is Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley and even Jimmy Swaggart, without those people Ferriday would not be a big up town like it was back in the day. The Delta Music Museum and Arcade Theater in the middle of downtown shows the famous singers careers of the local legends like Jerry Lee Lewis, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart. They were also known as "The Three Cousins". Ferriday is big on professional bass fishing on big Lake St. John. I bet if you talk to a bass fisherman they might have been there a time or two. Now Ferriday is not as big as it was in the day, before long it might be a ghost town wit a lot of history. Why you may ask well every year people move to the bigger cities, which I do not see why. I was born and raised in the outskirts of Ferriday with my family until I was about 15 years old. I hope one day when I have kids I want to show them where I came from and teach them about the long history of Ferriday because that is where Jazz and Country music formed and started from in a way. My mom is from Texas and my dad is from Natchez, Mississippi which is 5 minutes down the road from my hometown. When my parents got married they moved from Texas to Ferriday, Louisiana. They just loved the way Ferriday was back in the day. So as you may or may not know but crawfish is originally from Ferriday, Louisiana by a Cajun creole man. You can say that is the state sign. My hometown is not all that but I will always call it home because I love a small town and the people in that community. Over the years until the last year before I left it felt like it was not safe anymore just downtown was not safe but when your on the other side of town it was a little bit better. I miss my hometown but I am starting to like Bryan, College Station better but I will always know where my hometown will be. I hope one day I can go back to visit what is left there or at that time if there is even a town standing.

  1. Kayla - Okay, let me get this straight: country music, jazz music, AND crawfish all got their start in Ferriday? That's a better trifecta than those other three fellows you mentioned at the beginning of your post! Also, please do not read the comment I left on Amy Cabrera's blog.
